I think beaches are not Batam's strong point, the only good one is at Batam View Beach Resort but I wasn't exactly thrilled by it. When I was in Batam I found out that it's better to take a day trip to Bintan and enjoy the lovely and quiet beaches there, on the coast of Pantai Trijora. The tide is low and there are great spots for snorkelling. Batam and Bintan are linked by ferries and it's only a 45 minute ride from Telaga Punggur dock near Nagoya to Tanjung Pinang in Bintan.
